Bahasa Malaysia Differs From Bahasa Indonesia

There are many similarities between Bahasa Malaysia / Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia due to our common colonial histories. However, as the Portuguese have dropped their anggur (grape) and mentega (butter) into our daily vocabulary, so have the Dutch into the Indonesian lingo.

Bringing the term ‘false friends’ to mind, there are as many key differences between Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia as there are similarities. While living in either Malaysia or Indonesia for an extended period of time will help you pick up the language in the other country pretty well, there are some notable differences between these two languages that even locals don’t know about. During situations that require these words, it might be the case that not even Google Translate can help you so here are some important differences to remember:

1. Pusing
Translated to spin, Malaysians have been known to use it interchangeably with jalan-jalan or take a stroll. Indonesians however regard it is a throbbing migraine or total confusion; directly translated as kepala pusing or head-spinning.


2. Mata Kucing

The literal translation is ‘cat eye’, which is what you’ll get if you google translate it. In Malaysia, it is actually the name of a delectable fruit similar to lychee. In Indonesia, this very same fruit is known as lengkeng, and mata kucing just means cat eyes. So if one were to ask an Indonesian to try eating some mata kucing, it will be met with some scrutiny.


3. Lain
This word means ‘different’ to Malaysians, but Indonesians call it beda. Another example of a small yet subtle difference between the two languages.


4. Jeruk
In Malaysia, jeruk is used to refer to preserved fruits or vegetables in brine and tinted in varying hues. In Indonesia however, jeruk refers to an orange; and preserved fruits are called asinan instead.


5. Lelaki

A male in Indonesia are both known as laki-laki or pria. While laki-laki is acceptable in Malaysia, its common term would be lelaki.


6. Cakap
Imagine this scenario: you’re the center of attention as a foreigner and the locals want to test your capabilities to exchange some words in their mother tongue. ‘To speak’ is cakap in Bahasa Melayu whereas the very same meaning is bicara in Bahasa Indonesia.


7. Percuma
Getting something for free? You’ll commonly see it as percuma in Malaysia while Indonesia would offer it for gratis.


8. Perhentian Bas

If you’re riding a bus, it is very likely a bus stop is involved. Perhentian bas is what Malaysians call it, translating to literally mean ‘bus stop’, whereas halte is what the Indonesians have come to know it as, courtesy of the Dutch.

Fun fact: The Perhentian Islands are so-called because they were originally a ‘stopping point’ for sea traders travelling between Thailand and Malaysia.


9. Senget
In Malaysia whenever something is leaning, slanted, or tilted it would be known as senget. In Indonesia however, this very same unparalleled nature is known as miring instead.


10. Pokok
Pokok is used in both Malaysia and Indonesia for different meanings altogether. Pokok is known in Malaysia as ‘tree’ or plant, but in Indonesia pokok often means ‘principal’ (as in ‘main’), and the wordpohon is more commonly used to refer to a tree.


12. Maksud
Getting people to explain the bottom line can be a difficult feat even in your own language. Ask for the ‘meaning’ of something by requesting the maksud in Malaysia or erti in Indonesia.


13. Kedai

It is very likely you will need a little retail therapy or just need to pick up some necessities when you visit either one of these countries. If you need directions to find a nearby shop, ask for a kedai in Malaysia and a toko in Indonesia.


14. Pejabat
It might be the very last thing or very first thing you’ll look for depending on your travel needs, but if a post office or any office for that matter is what you’re after, it will be known as pejabat in Malaysia and kantor in Indonesia.


15. Kereta

A mode we are all too familiar with, the car. In Malaysia it will be known as kereta while in Indonesia it is the shortened version of automobile as I would guess – mobil.

一、蘆薈 (蘆薈品種大全)

可以止癢
蘆薈的品種很多，像中國蘆薈、上農大葉蘆薈、木立蘆薈，這些蘆薈都可以做藥用使用，夏天蚊子多，不小心被咬到，瘙癢難忍，趕緊剪個蘆薈葉子，用汁液擦擦就能止癢~

凈化空氣
蘆薈有較強的凈化空氣作用，能有效的吸收部分有害物質，比如甲醛甲苯等，為人們提供新鮮的空氣。另外，蘆薈非常容易養活，生長強健，只要一點水分就能生長，非常適合家居養護。

蘆薈繁殖方法
生長多年的蘆薈，會從底部長出新的植株，我們可以直接將新的植株從老植株上掰下來，種到花盆裡。

給蘆薈分株時，盡量每一棵植株上都保留適量的根系，這樣當你把蘆薈種到新的花盆時，能很快的生根。注意蘆薈不耐水濕，上盆時選擇疏鬆透氣的沙質土，養護時，一定要少澆水，多曬太陽。

二、薄荷

可以泡茶
夏天天氣炎熱，容易上火，買盆薄荷，做一杯薄荷茶，清涼解渴又消暑。薄荷茶的做法多種多樣，可以買檸檬，將薄荷檸檬一起放到冰箱里，做一份冰凍薄荷茶，提神醒腦，還可以用溫水浸泡，健康美味。

促進睡眠
在薄荷生長旺盛的時候，採摘新鮮的薄荷葉片，然後放在陽光充足的地方晾乾，之後裝到枕頭裡面，能有效的促進睡眠，特別是針對一些經常失眠的老年人，能有很好地作用。

薄荷繁殖方法
1、 剪取生長健壯的薄荷枝條，無病蟲害，長度約四五公分即可，將薄荷枝條下部葉片去掉，只保留上部的葉片。

2、 把枝條插入疏鬆透氣的土壤中，每天噴霧保濕，大約2周后可以生根。



三、茉莉

味道清香
茉莉花的味道非常香，所以，如果你想要一盆香香的植物，花花建議你一定要買一盆茉莉。不過，最好不要放在卧室，因為很香的味道，容易讓你睡不著哦。

泡茶食用
在茉莉花含苞待放時，摘下來曬乾，可以沖泡一杯茉莉花茶，盛開的茉莉花還可以用來煮粥，炒雞蛋，做一份鮮美的茉莉冬瓜湯，能健脾和胃，理氣止痛。

茉莉繁殖方法
1、 剪取生長健壯的木質化的茉莉枝條。

2、 將枝條剪成5公分左右的長度，去掉下部的葉片，上面的葉片可以斜剪一半。

3、 將準備好的茉莉枝條扦插到基質中，基質可以用蛭石、珍珠岩或河沙。

4、 澆透水，放到陰涼透風地養護。

5、 保持基質呈濕潤狀態，一段時間后，茉莉變會長出茂盛的根系，這時便可以進行上盆啦。

四、綠蘿 (萬年青）

能凈化空氣
綠蘿是吸甲醛的小能手，價格便宜，又好養活，去花市，可不要忘了買盆綠蘿~

即能水培也可土培
綠蘿既能水培也能土培，掐個枝放水裡就能活，如果能每個周添加一次水培營養液，可以長得更好。

綠蘿繁殖方法
在扦插或選擇水培枝條時，最好選擇枝條帶有氣生根的，這樣長根快，成活率更高。



五、發財樹

招財運
中國人對風水學很講究，發財樹，顧名思義可以給大家帶來財運好運，所以，如果你也是一位對風水學感興趣的花友，不妨去花市買一盆發財樹哦。

繁殖方法
養護髮財樹，一定要注意多通風，少澆水，否則很容易爛根，那麼發財樹如何繁殖呢，其實也非常簡單。

1、 剪取木質化的發財樹枝條，長度約10厘米即可，然後取一個塑料瓶，瓶內裝滿水，將發財樹枝條插到水中。

2、 等看到發財樹枝條末端有根系長出時，便可以將發財樹重新扦插到沙質土壤中，進行誘根。

3、 把花盆放在沒有陽光直射的地方，經常在葉片周圍噴霧，大約20天左右，發財樹枝條就會生根。

六、多肉

養護簡單
大紅大紫的多肉植物，無處不見，去花市，也別忘了捎帶幾盆，非常好養活，只要晒晒太陽就能活，少澆水，如果水澆多了，必爛根，特別是夏季，多數多肉處於休眠期，更要控水。

繁殖方法
1、多肉可以用葉片繁殖，首先選取健康的葉片，然後將葉片放在通風處晾乾。

2、晾乾后將葉片平鋪到栽培基質中，放到陰涼通風的地方，大約兩個周葉片就能生根長芽。

七、月季

顏值高
有人說月季是人們的大眾情人，為啥，還不是因為太美了！品種多種多樣，顏色豐富多彩，想要什麼樣的就有什麼樣的，這樣的月季，給一千盆都不嫌多！

繁殖方法
1、 月季繁殖最好選擇花后的枝條，這樣的枝條分生能力強，能很快生根。

2、 扦插的基質可以選擇蛭石、珍珠岩、河沙，扦插后，一定要保持基質有足夠的濕度，多噴水。

3、溫度高的話，二十天左右就能生根。

八、長壽花 （落地生根）

寓意好
長壽花非常適合送給老人，祝老人家可以長命百歲幸福安康，這樣的花，當然也是再多也不嫌棄。

繁殖方法
1、長壽花可以選擇開完花的枝條扦插，每個插穗保留兩個節點。將最後一個節點上的葉片去掉。

2、扦插長壽花的基質可以用沙子、珍珠岩、蛭石都行，扦插后注意保持土壤濕潤就行。一段時間，扦插的枝條開始長出新的葉片，這時便可以將花盆移到光照充足的地方養護。

九、一帆風順

吸收甲醛
一帆風順，也就是白掌，是室內吸收廢棄的能手，對甲醛、甲苯、氨氣都有一定的吸收作用。

繁殖方法
白掌可以採用分株的方法來繁殖，將生長成簇的白掌，用鋒利的剪刀剪開，然後重新栽培到土壤中，或重新水培即可。

十、銅錢草

財源廣進
想要財源廣進，生意興隆，當然少不了一盆銅錢草，俗話不是說的好，家有銅錢草，財源滾滾來嘛~

繁殖方法
銅錢草的繁殖方法非常簡單，從原先的花盆裡掰出來一部分，種到新的土壤中，很快就能長一大片。

想要養好銅錢草，一不能缺了水，二不能缺了光，保證充足的光照和水分，銅錢草便能枝繁葉茂。

The Powerful Anti-Terrorism Ad That’s The Hit of Ramadan

The month of Ramadan is a time of peak TV consumption in the Arab world, and in turn, peak TV ad budgets. So the Kuwaiti telecom company Zain decided to make to the most of the holy season with a powerful three-minute musical spot urging Arabs to reject suicide bombings.

The ad begins with a man making a bomb in a dark room, juxtaposed with scenes of joyous everyday life. Simple acts like the kick of a soccer ball, the kiss of a baby's foot, a bride's touch of a wedding table's chair, are highlighted with animated flowers.

Meanwhile, a child writes an essay in school, an open letter to suicide bombers: "I will tell God everything, that you've filled the cemeteries with our children and emptied our school desks, that you've sparked unrest and turned our streets into darkness. And that you've lied. God has full knowledge of the secrets of all hearts."

By the end of the essay, the bomber has left his home and gets on a bus. With his suicide vest exposed, he us faced with past victims of attacks. He dourly sings, "I bear witness that there is no God but Allah." A passenger holding a child stands up to confront him with warmth, singing in response: "You, who comes in the name of death. "He is the creator of life."

The bomber turns his gaze to a boy who resembles the five-year old who escaped an airstrike in Aleppo, Syria. The boy holds up the famous image of himself, and sings to bomber of a compassionate God, "The forgiving and forbearing who hurts not those who hurt him."

'Worship Your God With Love, Not Terror' 

The bomber is then seen outside the bus, surrounded by carnage and repeatedly challenged by fellow Arabs who explain who "God is greater" than. To one bloodied suit-clad man, God is greater "than those who hide what doesn't show." To a schoolteacher it's "those who obey without contemplation." The crowd swells, another man sings God is greater "than those lurking to betray us." One man looks at the camera silently, but is identified as an actual survivor of a Kuwaiti terrorist attack.

The bomber feels cornered as the crowd surrounds him and the music becomes more upbeat. "Worship your God with love, not terror. Be tender in your faith, tender not harsh. Confront your enemy with peace, not war. Persuade others with leniency, not force" the leader of the pack sings, holding out his hand to the bomber who had fallen. A white man is seen listening attentively to a cleric, in front of a sign that reads, "Let there be no compulsion in religion."

The music stops. The bomber falls to his knees, and appears to be ready to detonate his vest.

But instead of violence, we see fireworks. "Let us bomb violence with mercy" the singers resume. The wedding from the opening shots commences, and the actual surviving bride from a 2005 terrorist attack on her wedding reception is shown smiling at the newly married couple.

The final frame declares, "we will counter their attacks of hatred with songs of love. From now until happiness."

So far, three million YouTube viewers are sharing that message.

MH Awards Dynamically Priced & Partner Awards Changes
Malaysia Airlines has today announced changes to its Enrich frequent flier programs effective June 10, 2017.

Malaysia Airlines awards are priced dynamically entirely based on the ticket price. Partner and Oneworld award charts have been changed too making those much more expensive.

Just checked and you can get KUL-LGK business class ticket on Malaysia Airlines for $116. The base fare is $104 (no fuel surcharges). Would you pay this or 34K+ miles?

KUL-HKG business class return for the same dates in July was just $397 (seems to be rather low price) of which the base fare is $336.92. Would you rather pay 107K miles for this?

KUL-LHR for the same dates is $3,321.40 of which the base fare is $3055.39. The example price using miles is 240K+.

These prices were from ITA Matrix. At least if the first two examples are any indication, the Enrich to $ value could be around one third of a cent.

Note that it says that you cannot dynamically price awards on fare classes Q, O, G and Z. The Z is the lowest business class fare class and the others are economy ones. I believe that all my Malaysia Airlines issued have been on these.


Conclusion
Malaysia Airlines Enrich members should really evaluate if this essentially “cashback” program is right for them. The partner and Oneworld award charts have been decimated too.

Malaysia Airlines tries to have it here both ways. Claiming that all its own awards are priced dynamically while at the same time excluding the fare classes where likely most tickets are issued. Just ridiculous. Previously, economy class awards were complete waste of time with this program due to the fuel surcharges charged.

The partner and Oneworld award charts have been “enhanced” too making these awards very expensive using Enrich miles. Many routes now required anywhere from 50% to 100% more miles.

Anyone should take their Enrich miles and redeem before the June 20, 2017, devaluation date and then evaluate which program is right to credit Malaysia Airlines flights to (I credit them to BA).

The Creepy Shell Lady has Returned to Haunt Malaysian Drivers

Last year, pictures of a cardboard cut-out nicknamed the ‘Shell mineral water lady’ were all over social media because netizens were shocked to see it popping out of petrol kiosks.

At first glance, the cut-out looks very realistic, causing many customers to jump when they first see it. Wah, terkejut I.

People were so scared of this cut-out that Shell had to remove them from their petrol stations and replace them with posters that said, “Sorry if I shocked you…”

Soon after the cut-outs were taken down, netizens began to miss ‘Gadis Air Mineral’ even though she scared many of them. :'(

After 5 months, the infamous Shell lady has returned!

Malaysian netizens began freaking out again when they discovered that the creepy and infamous ‘Shell lady’ poster has returned to petrol stations. 

This hilarious viral video posted on Facebook last night informed the public of the Shell lady’s return and needless to say, Malaysian netizens started flipping out.

Last year, the cut-out of the lady was holding a mineral water bottle. But now, she appears to just be giving a ‘thumbs up’ sign and more of her body is shown instead of just her upper half.

【異形．聖約】搞清系列時間線 普羅米修斯到聖約事隔10年

《普羅米修斯》（Prometheus）──2093年12月

前傳首集解釋異形與人類本是同根生。

2089年考古學家 Elizabeth Shaw（Noomi Rapace飾）與男友 Charlie Holloway 從已滅亡的人類文明中發現古星際地圖，他們認為憑此可找到到人類的創造者──稱之為「工程師」的外星巨人。Weyland年老的企業CEO Peter Weyland為覓得長生之術，組織一支考察隊伍嘗試與「工程師」接觸。考察隊由Weyland的女兒 Meredith Vickers（查理絲花朗飾）帶領，於2093年乘坐太空船「普羅米修斯號」向目的星球LV-223出發。他們抵達後發現一些神秘容器及「工程師」的屍體，隨隊人工智能機械人 David （米高法斯賓達飾）偷走其中一個容器回太空船研究，裏面盛載着未知的黑色液體。原來這種液體會令植物以外的生物異變，最終演化成觀眾熟悉的異形。電影最後「普羅米修斯號」船員幾乎全滅， David 亦被倖存的「工程師」扯下頭。

《異形：聖約》（Alien: Covenant）──2104年

帶着開展新生活的希望，卻跌落異形地獄。

「普羅米修斯號」宣告失蹤，但從前導影片《序幕：相遇》（Prologue: The Crossing）可知其實Elizabeth Shaw 與 David 存活下來，前者將後者修理好，一同坐上「工程師」的飛船逃離LV-223，向「工程師」的家鄉「天堂」進發。2104年，兩千多名太空殖民以及15名船員還有機械人Walter帶着過千人類胚胎乘坐「聖約號」，打算用7年多時間飛往與地球相似的星球Origae-6展開新生活。然而航行期間發生意外，部分船員身亡兼船身損毀。維修時船員探測到異常雜訊，得知附近有更適合人類居住的神秘星球，船長決定降落該星球作考察，怎料原來該地早被異形佔領。

《異形》（Alien）──2122年

普通不過的任務，因為好奇心而慘死。

2122年商業拖運飛船Nostromo號從Thedus星返回地球，途中Nostromo的電腦「母親」接收到來歷不明的訊號。船員從冷凍睡眠醒來，登陸鄰近的行星偵測訊號來源，在該行星發現一艘荒廢了的太空船，船內有大量巨形怪蛋。其中一隻蛋裂開，跳出一隻異形幼蟲「抱面體」（Facehugger）攻擊船員之一Kane。其他船員把已受「感染」的Kane帶回Nostromo號，未知此舉等於自殺。異形在Nostromo號進行大屠殺，最終只剩女主角Ellen Ripley（薛歌妮韋花飾）和她的貓咪Jones生還。

《異形續集》（Aliens）──2179年

由被動轉主動，女主角確立英雄地位。

進入冷凍睡眠的Ripley和Jones在外太空飄流57年，於2179年獲救。醒來的Ripley被迫參加僱主公司Weyland-Yutani舉行的聽證會，解釋她爆破拖運飛船Nostromo號的原因，她有關異形的證詞備受質疑，公司決定撤銷她的太空飛行執照。2183年某日，Ripley被公司代表告知位於LV-426星體的太空殖民地Hadley's Hope與地球失去聯絡，如果Ripley擔任相關偵查行動的顧問，便有機會取回執照並恢復職務。原來Hadley's Hope坐落的LV-426，即是Ripley 50多年前首遇異形的地方。偵查隊在殖民地發現一名不願說話的小女孩Newt，除她以外全無生命跡像。這個星球早已變成異形的巢穴，偵查隊成員非死即傷，為救被異形抓走的Newt，Ripley摧毀眾多異形幼蛋，並與異形皇后正面開戰。

《異形三集》（Alien3）──2184年

異形窮追不捨，女主角為大局着想選擇犧牲。

成功擊退異形皇后的Ripley，與Newt、另一船員Hicks以及機械人Bishop登上戰船Sulaco逃生。一年後戰船撞上監獄星球Fury 161，Ripley被監獄醫生Clemens從深眠喚醒，Newt和Hicks在撞擊意外中俱亡。監獄犯人一個接一個神秘失蹤，Ripley懷疑是異形搞鬼，更害怕異形胚胎已附身某人。經過掃描檢查，Ripley發現自己已變成異形母體，腹中的胚胎正快速成長。在與異形一輪大戰並將其消滅後，Weyland-Yutani公司派人來到這個監獄星球，希望能把Ripley帶回地球取出異形胚胎。為怕異形殺到地球，再加上對公司失去信任，Ripley選擇帶着體內的怪物跳入熔爐自殺。

《異形四集之逆種》（Alien: Resurrection）──2434年

人類挑戰禁忌，企圖成為「神」創造生命。

時間一跳就跳到200多年後，Weyland-Yutani企業與軍方合作，在2386年成功複製Ripley與她體內的異形胚胎，並將兩者分離。2434年，人類科學家將Ripley的基因和異形的基因混合，創造出新種異形「Newborn」。新異形在飛船Auriga上失控，大開殺戒，複製人Ripley 8唯有親手了結自己的骨肉。
