Hello Kitty is NOT a cat

Hello Kitty is in fact not a cat, or a British schoolgirl, but a combination of both.

In the midst of speculation surrounding her identity (Is she a cat? Is she a human?), Japanese creator Sanrio has confirmed that the global phenomenon worth an annual $5 billion, is in fact a mixture of the two.

Sanrio recently revealed that she is a British schoolgirl named Kitty White and lives just outside London.

However, when RocketNews24 asked further about Hello Kitty's identity, the company's response was: "We never said she was a human."

Sanrio explains that Hello Kitty in an example anthropomorphization i.e. attributing human characteristics to things that aren't human, in this case a cat. Still with us? Good.

In this way, Hello Kitty is a mix of both human and cat characteristics, just like Mickey Mouse is a mix of human and mouse characteristics - simple!

Sanrio was also asked why Hello Kitty had no mouth, to which the company replied: "We never said Hello Kitty doesn't have a mouth", going on to reveal that she does have a mouth, but it is not depicted most of the time.
